A fascinating 1945 Time Capsule: A 1-sided Finnish Explanation for Events

This is a difficult book to review. The "editor", John Wuorinen, writes in his lengthy Foreward (dated May 1947) (pgs. 3-28), that the manuscript for the book was received in the US in 1945, that he first encountered it in early 1946, and that he believes it was likely written by more than one person but he won't say more, other than whoever wrote it was likely high up in the Finnish government. So right off the bat we have no actual knowledge regarding the author. Wuorinen admits to adding a few very minor footnotes to the text and making some revision to the last or concluding chapter (essentially to update it to the final 1947 Treaty of Paris).
This is the only English language book that covers the entire period of WW II, from the pre-history before the Winter War, the Winter War, the inter-war period, the Continuation War, and the post-history concluding with the 1947 Treaty. But this is mainly a political and diplomatic history. There is very little discussion of military activity or battles. So anyone wanting to learn details about the fighting during the Winter War or Continuation War must go elsewhere.
This is a valuable piece of essentially pro-Finnish advocacy. Both the writer(s?) and editor paint a very gloomy picture of the future of Finland, essentially arguing that the final 1947 Treaty spells ruin for the nation by imposing impossible reparations and ensuring complete Soviet domination politically. Fortunately, they were wrong. Finland overcame the harsh terms, survived, and prospered. But it certainly was a close call and the ongoing events in 1945-1947 in Eastern Europe predisposed the Finns to be pessimistic about their chances.
One can almost argue that the book is a form of pro-Finnish propaganda at least as regards the decision to become a co-belligerent with Nazi Germany in 1941. The writer(s?) paint Finland out in the most positive light. There is a strong defense in regard to why Finland joined Germany, but it is no longer historically convincing or accurate to claim that Finland was just a passive, defensive onlooker that ended up through no desire or will on Germany's side. Writers like Upton (1964) and Lunde (2011) have convincingly proven that Finland's military leaders actively cooperated in advance with Germany to plan and stage a preemptive strike on the USSR, and Finland's political leaders abrogated their authority and responsibility by essentially deferring to the military. Fortunately, that military had very limited war aims and misled the Germans by not stating in advance to them how little Finland would engage in war with the USSR.
There are 4 maps. They are detailed but too small to see very clearly. There is a short 4-page Index but no Bibliography.
There are 2 appendices, the 1944 Armistice and the 1947 Treaty. Oddly, he didn't include a copy of the 1940 Treaty of Moscow or the 1920 Treaty of Dorpat, both of which would've greatly enhanced the book.

This is a very short book. The primary text doesn't start until p. 33 and it ends on p. 187. The appendices run over 30 pages.
Physically this is a small book. The pages measure just 8 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. My copy of this book is the 1983 reprint by Greenwood Press (Connecticut), not the original 1948 edition.
