Review
"An excellent, well-organized introductory work. Dealing with art music only, Tiemstra includes a catalog of composers and their works (OCLC location symbols provided), anthologies and collections of music, series of music, music publishers (complete addresses are not consistently given), selected discography, recording companies, music archives, biographical bibliography, and periodicals. The latter four categories will be of interest also to those conducting research on topics other than choral music. Notable features are Tiemstra's brief survey of art music in Latin America, a guide to conducting research on Latin American music, and a list of scholars, organizations, and schools that focus on Latin American studies. Too recent for Tiemstra's bibliography is Donald Thompson's bibliography Music and Dance in Puerto Rico from the Age of Columbus to Modern Times (CH, Jun '92). Tiemstra's work may be supplemented by referring to the on-going series Secular Choral Music in Print and Sacred Choral Music in Print. Tiemstra does not include a general index (Note: R. Ceruti's "Missa a cuatro voces" and five works by D. Zipoli are recorded on audio cassette by Coral Nova, Ramiro Soriano, director, in La Paz, Bolivia.)"-Choice

An incredibly valuable source for fascinating choral music.

This book gave me valuable information for research of my Master's Choral Recital. My theme was Latin American and Spanish music, and I found beautiful music in here. It's an exciting book.
